AI music rights checklist

Questions to check before you publish AI-made songs. General information, not legal advice.

Diese Anleitung ist noch nicht in deine Sprache übersetzt und wird deshalb auf Englisch angezeigt.

This is general information, not legal advice. Rules differ by country and change quickly. For a real decision, ask a lawyer in your country.

Publishing a song means you say: I am allowed to share this. Go through this list before you upload — and again before you tick “Also publish on aimusiclist.com”.

1. The AI tool you used

  • Do the tool's terms let you publish and share what you made? Some allow it only on paid plans, or only from the date you subscribed.
  • Do the terms say who owns the output — you, the company, or nobody?
  • Were you on that plan when you made the song? Save a screenshot of your plan and the date.

2. What you put in

  • Lyrics: did you write them, or do you have permission? Lyrics from other songs are protected even if an AI sings them.
  • Audio you uploaded (a melody, a sample, a reference track): is it yours or licensed?
  • Voices: no cloned voice of a real singer without their clear permission.
  • Covers and remixes of existing songs need permission from the rights holders.

3. What comes out

  • Listen carefully: does it sound very close to a specific existing song? If yes, don't publish it.
  • Title, cover image and artist name: are they yours? Don't use other artists' names or logos.
  • Cover art made with AI: check the image tool's terms too.

4. Keep records

  • Keep your prompts, the dates, and the files from each step.
  • Keep a copy of the tool's terms on the day you made the song.

5. Be open

  • Saying that a song was made with AI builds trust with listeners.
  • If someone asks about a song, answer honestly and quickly.

On aimusiclist

aimusiclist.com lists only songs that artists choose to publish from their own sites. Members can report a song they believe is copied. The team reviews reports, can hide a song while checking, and can block it. A site with repeated confirmed problems can be suspended. If you think a decision is wrong, reply to the notice email.

Removing a song from aimusiclist is instant: untick “Also publish on aimusiclist.com” on your site.
