Add a language

Show your personal site — or meshmelo itself — in another language with a language pack.

Every screen sentence lives in a language pack: one file per language. Add a file and the language appears in the picker. Anything not translated yet simply shows in English, so a half-done pack never breaks the page.

Your personal site

Your site comes with English, Korean and Japanese. Visitors pick a language at the bottom or in the menu.

To add another language, follow the language pack manual that comes with the site (docs/ folder of the site package). In short:

  1. Make an empty pack from English with the included tool.
  2. Translate it with free AI (the manual has a ready-made request).
  3. Add one line with the language's own name (for example Français).
  4. Run the checker, test, and deploy.

Genre names (R&B, Hip-hop …) come from aimusiclist.com, not from your pack.

Help translate meshmelo

meshmelo uses the same idea:

  • lang/en.json is the English original. Copy it to lang/fr.json (your language code) and translate only the right-hand side.
  • Keep the keys and {variables} exactly as they are. Update _meta (code, name, native name).
  • Guides are plain text files: content/fr/guides/…md. A guide without a translation shows in English.
  • Check with php tools/check_lang.php fr.
  • Once the file is on the server, the French pages appear at their own address: /fr/, /fr/skins …

The full manual with a request for free AI is in docs/language-pack.md of the meshmelo package.

Tips for translators

  • Short and friendly. Buttons should be one or two words.
  • Don't translate names and technical words: aimusiclist.com, MP3, R2, HTML, {{menu}}.
  • Keep the quotation marks of button names consistent across sentences.
